Following on from last week’s article on a fraud at one of a university’s overseas offices, there are a couple of useful pointers in two other fraud discussions posted up this week. Firstly, with the summer holidays approaching it is well worth reminding students about what money mules are, and the associated risks. There are websites out there with lots of excellent information, so please do take the chance to communicate in your institution.
Secondly, a number of institutions are still being targeted with a supplier fraud, where the fraudster uses an email address with a domain very similar to the university domain (e.g. @university-ac.uk) to attempt to order goods on the university’s account. The universities of Warwick and Kent have both had experience and success in shutting these scams down.
